I had the pleasure of speaking with Katrina Bowden about her upcoming horror film, Great White, which releases in theaters, VOD, and Digital on Friday, July 16, 2021. Katrina is best known for playing Cerie on NBC's 30 Rock (2006-2013) and has also appeared in such films as Tucker & Dale vs. Evil, Sex Drive, Piranha 3DD, American Reunion, and Scary Movie 5. She can currently be seen on the CBS daytime soap opera The Bold and the Beautiful playing Flo Fulton.
Her new role in Great White sees her playing Kaz Fellows, an American nurse who works alongside her boyfriend, Charlie (Aaron Jakubenko) in his charter plane business. In the film, two great white sharks circle five passengers aboard a stranded seaplane miles from shore. Bowden talked with me about doing a survival horror film that focuses more on the characters and their peril rather than just cheap scare tactics and gore. Bowden appreciated that most of the tension generated in the film was only bolstered by the viewer genuinely caring about the outcome of each person on screen and that's what sets it apart from other films from the genre.
Katrina is also talked about shooting in Australia, the physicality of the role, becoming one with her co-stars since they pretty much only had each other, and working with practical and visual effects that challenged their imagination as actors. I also got to ask the actress about the possibility of a 30 Rock reunion in the future as we wrapped up our chat and she seemed pretty into the idea of it happening.
Check out the interview and remember that Great White releases in theaters, VOD, and Digital on July 16, 2021.
