The last, but possibly not final, installment in THE HUNGER GAMES series is still several months away but according to THE HUNGER GAMES: MOCKINGJAY – PART 1 director Francis Lawrence, you'd better bring some tissues to the theater; Lawrence calls this final chapter “the most emotional of the bunch, and I think it’s the most satisfying of the bunch.”
A new photo featuring Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) and Effie Trinket (Elizabeth Banks) has popped up over at Entertainment Weekly and as I've not read the particular form of source material on which THE HUNGER GAMES is based (I think they're called books) I've nary a clue as to what's happening here. The return of shoulder pads?
Francis Lawrence makes mention that "there is some serious girl power in this movie" and he's correct; in addition to Jennifer Lawrence and Elizabeth Banks, you've got several other kick-ass women including Natalie Dormer (Cressida), Gwendoline Christie (Commander Lyme), and the always awesome Michelle Forbes showing up as a new character named Lieutenant Jackson. I've been pleasantly surprised by the quality of these films as well as how much I've enjoyed them, here's hoping the finale will be a fitting one.
The official synopsis for MOCKINGJAY – PART 2:
With the nation of Panem in a full scale war, Katniss confronts President Snow (Donald Sutherland) in the final showdown. Teamed with a group of her closest friends – including Gale (Liam Hemsworth), Finnick (Sam Claflin), and Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) – Katniss goes off on a mission with the unit from District 13 as they risk their lives to stage an assassination attempt on President Snow who has become increasingly obsessed with destroying her. The mortal traps, enemies, and moral choices that await Katniss will challenge her more than any arena she faced in The Hunger Games.
With San Diego Comic-Con approaching it should come as no surprise that THE HUNGER GAMES: MOCKINGJAY – PART 2 will have a presence at the Con with a July 9th panel in Hall H. The panel should feature new footage from the film as well as a Q&A with cast and crew which will hopefully keep us satisfied until THE HUNGER GAMES: MOCKINGJAY – PART 2 premieres in theaters on November 25, 2015.
