Model Kate Moss gave Johnny Depp a pretty solid assist during her brief testimony at the Depp-Amber Heard defamation trial. There had been rumors that the actor pushed her down a flight of stairs when they dated in the ’90s but Moss refuted those claims during her testimony.
From her testimony, obtained via Deadline, Moss actually explained that Depp came to her aid following the fall. She explained that she had been staying at the GoldenEye resort in Jamaica during a rainstorm and went on to say, “As I left the room I slid down the stairs and I hurt my back. I screamed because I was in pain.” After the fall, Moss said Depp came to help, carried her back to the room, and got her medical attention. She went on to say, “He never pushed me, kicked me, or threw me down any kind of stairs.”
So, how did Moss get brought back into this? The model dated Depp from 1994 to 1998 and she was called as a witness by Depp’s legal team after Heard referenced her in her testimony. Heard testified earlier this month that during one of their arguments in March 2015, Depp took a swing at her sister, who was standing near a flight of stairs. Heard said, “in my head, I just instantly think of Kate Moss and stairs” and she then punched the actor to try to get him to stop.
Depp’s legal team instantly saw this as an opportunity to strengthen their case, even giving each other a fist bump that garnered a smile from Depp because they knew what the real situation with Kate Moss was. She could be called as a rebuttal witness to heighten the idea that it was Heard that engaged in domestic abuse. Making Moss’s testimony even more strong was that they haven’t dated since 1998, she has no reason to lie for Depp or try to protect him. If this really happened, she could’ve easily let the truth come out here but clearly, the event was simply a rumor.
