Kate McKinnon The Lunch Witch

With GHOSTBUSTERS having come and gone and winding up being, for me at least, neither particularly good nor particularly bad, it's time for its cast to move on to other projects. Kate McKinnon has seen her star rise considerably in the past year and we will likely be seeing even more of the SNL actress in future. She's added yet another project to her upcoming slate as Deadline reports that Kate McKinnon is set to take on the lead role of Grunhilda in THE LUNCH WITCH for Amblin Entertainment.

Adapted from Deb Lucke's series of YA graphic-novels, THE LUNCH WITCH will mark the live-action directing debut of THE ANGRY BIRDS MOVIE co-director Clay Kaytis. Aside from GHOSTBUSTERS and SNL, I really haven't seen all that much from Kate McKinnon just yet, but she's definitely shown that she can nail these types of quirky over-the-top characters. The first installment of the series, which was published just last year, finds Grunhilda forced to take a lunch lady job. At first she delights in scaring the students but she soon meets a shy girl named Madison who becomes an unlikely friend. Aw! Let's see what else Amazon has to say about Lucke's novel:

For generations and generations, the women of Grunhilda’s family have stirred up trouble in a big, black pot. Grunhilda inherits her famous ancestors’ recipes and cauldron, but no one believes in magic anymore. Despite the fact that Grunhilda’s only useful skill is cooking up potfuls of foul brew, she finds a job listing that might suit her: lunch lady. She delights in scaring the kids until she meets Madison, a girl with thick glasses and unfinished homework who doesn’t fit in. The two outsiders recognize each other. Madison needs help at school and at home, but helping people goes against everything Grunhilda’s believes in as a witch! Will this girl be able to thaw the Lunch Witch’s icy heart? Or will Grunhilda turn her back on a kindred spirit?

McKinnon's next, OFFICE CHRISTMAS PARTY, will hit theaters on December 9th.
