Karl Urban says new Dredd is just a matter of time

It's been years now since director Pete Travis's take on Judge Dredd aka DREDD hit the big screen starring Karl Urban as the titular judge, jury, and executioner. Since then we've heard rumors of a DREDD 2 and a possible TV series in the form of JUDGE DREDD: MEGA-CITY ONE.

But it's been a while since we've heard anything new and talks have seemingly died on all fronts. Until today that is. Today we have word via Dredd himself Karl Urban that he has no doubt that, someday, someone will make a new JUDGE DREDD. It is only a matter of time.

Urban says:

Listen, I would love to make it, I'm on the record saying that a bunch of times. I don't know if that's gonna happen. I think that the guys that own the rights to Dredd, Rebellion, I think they're developing something called Mega-City One and it would just be great to see more Dredd, whether it's with me or not, it doesn't matter. I'm a fan of Dredd and there are so many great stories there. I'd love to see them. And I have no doubt that, someday, someone will make it. It's just a matter of time.

The last time we saw Urban as Dredd was in the kick-ass 2012 flick which centered on this synopsis:

Mega City One is a vast, violent metropolis where felons rule the streets. One day, Dredd is partnered with Cassandra (Olivia Thirlby), a rookie with powerful psychic abilities. A report of a terrible crime sends Dredd and Cassandra to a dangerous area controlled by Ma-Ma (Lena Headey), a drug lord who will stop at nothing to protect her empire.
