It was only a week or so ago now that we first shared the news that Judge Dredd was making his way back to the screen – this time in the form of a TV series called JUDGE DREDD: MEGA-CITY ONE. Like many of you, I was excited as hell to hear there would be more Dredd shooting people in the face, but today's news is even better.
Turns out JUDGE DREDD: MEGA-CITY ONE executive producer Jason Kingsley wants none other than DREDD's Karl Urban to jump back in the saddle (and cover his face for weeks on end) as Dredd for the new series! How f*cking cool would that be?
Executive producer Jason Kingsley on Karl Urban as Dredd:
The great thing about Karl is, he’s actually a big fan of the comic book, and he’s a really nice guy, and I know him well enough to speak to him personally. We have had many conversations prior to this about all sorts of different things. He’s also a very busy full-time professional actor. So, we are going to have some long and complicated conversations, I would imagine, and we’ll see where we go. It’s too early to tell yet. But if we can use him, and he is available to us, then I think that would be absolutely brilliant.”
Karl Urban on Dredd:
“I turned on to Dredd when I was about 16, working in a pizza parlor in Wellington. The manager sort of switched me on to it. It was kind of ironic at the time because most teenagers do sort of rebel against everything to do with authority, and the law, and all that sort of stuff. I really gravitated towards this ultra-brutal representative of the law. I just loved it.”
We'll let you know more on JUDGE DREDD: MEGA-CITY ONE as we hear it. Until then let us know who you'd like to see play Dredd if Urban (and Stallone) turn down the role.
