The new horror flick OCULUS stars Karen Gillan as a woman trying to exonerate her brother who was convicted of murder by way of proving it was actually committed by a supernatural force; an antique mirror. Mirrors always seem to get a bad rap in horror films as they are never seen without something horrible happening inside or behind them and this new clip from the film is another nail in that coffin. It's a creepy clip, to be sure, but let's face it, you're probably here for Karen Gillan in her negligee and for that I can't blame you.
Enjoy:
Here's the synopsis:
Ten years ago, tragedy struck the Russell family, leaving the lives of teenage siblings Tim and Kaylie forever changed when Tim was convicted of the brutal murder of their parents. Now in his 20s, Tim is newly released from protective custody and only wants to move on with his life; but Kaylie, still haunted by that fateful night, is convinced her parents’ deaths were caused by something else altogether: a malevolent supernatural force unleashed through the Lasser Glass, an antique mirror in their childhood home. Determined to prove Tim’s innocence, Kaylie tracks down the mirror, only to learn similar deaths have befallen previous owners over the past century. With the mysterious entity now back in their hands, Tim and Kaylie soon find their hold on reality shattered by terrifying hallucinations, and realize, too late, that their childhood nightmare is beginning again…
After last year's successful horror flicks THE CONJURING and INSIDIOUS: CHAPTER 2 made a slash at the box office (natch!) the door is certainly open for some new contenders. OCULUS has a lot of potential to get in the ring with the horror heavyweights and may well help provide some theaterical diversity amongst superheroes and men with guns.
OCULUS, starring Karen Gillan, Brenton Thwaites, Rory Cochrane, Katee Sackhoff, Annalise Basso, Garrett Ryan, James Lafferty and Miguel Sandoval haunts theaters on April 11, 2014.
