Damn Karen, I see you!
As reported back in June of last year, Dwayne Johnson excitedly announced a sequel to their mega successful reboot after bringing in nearly $1 billion worldwide to the box office and becoming Sony's highest grossing film. For a reimagining of an early '90s film, it's kind of shocking that JUMANJI: WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE wound up being bigger than SPIDER-MAN, SKYFALL, MEN IN BLACK, and GHOSTBUSTERS — domestically speaking, of course, but it's still a pretty big deal.
Sony Pictures head Tom Rothman spoke at CinemaCon in April of last year where he confirmed that JUMANJI 3 is all set for a December 13th, 2019 release date, and also, and that Dwayne Johnson will be returning. Because Sony is aiming for their safari sequel to hit theaters in December, JUMANJI will once again take on STAR WARS as it goes against EPISODE IX, as well as the movie adaptation of WICKED and the upcoming MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE movie. Based on the first film's success at the box office, it seems that taking on the beloved Disney franchise might not necessarily be a death sentence for movies that aren't made in the House of Mouse.
The Rock teased the start of production on the upcoming film on Valentine's Day, blessing fans' feeds around the globe via his Instagram. Along with the returning cast, screenwriters Jeff Pinker and Scott Rosenberg are back to write the script, and director Jake Kasdan will reprise his role as the ringleader of another rambunctious trip into the jungle. The plot details for Sony's sequel to JUMANJI: WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE are still under wraps, but names like Awkwafina, Danny DeVito, and Danny Glover have been added to the roster. The teen cast of JUMANJI: WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE – Alex Wolff (HEREDITARY), Ser Darius Blain (STAR TREK: INTO DARKNESS), Madison Iseman (GOOSEBUMPS 2: HAUNTED HALLOWEEN and Morgan Tuner (REMEMBER ME) – are set to join Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart and Karen Gillan for the highly-anticipated sequel.
Are y'all excited for more JUMANJI? I personally loved the 2017 entry, but how do you guys feel? Make sure to sound off in the comments section below and let us know!
