We all know THE SOCIAL NETWORK is going to be awards bait in a number of categories, Picture, Director (Fincher), Screenplay (Sorkin), Actor (Eisenberg) and probably Supporting Actor (Garfield). But apparently that’s not quite enough for Justin Timberlake, who wants in on the fun and is reportedly “pushing” for a Supporting Actor nomination himself.
As this is from Page Six, proceed with caution, but reportedly Timberlake is putting the work in to get in good with Hollywood and secure a nom.
He’s hell-bent on getting a nomination this year even though he has tough competition from his co-star Andrew Garfield. Sony is footing the bill for advertising the awards campaign, but Justin is also doing things his own way, including attending Academy screenings on his own and privately reaching out to award winners and Academy darlings Tom Hanks and Kevin Spacey for campaigning advice.
So the question is, do you think he deserves it? THE SOCIAL NETWORK is full of great performances, and I would say Timberlake’s is one of them, as he reminds of a lot of slick Silicon Valley types I used to know. But good enough for nomination? I’m not so sure. Besides, the clear frontrunner is said to be Christian Bale, who yet again drastically transformed himself physically for THE FIGHTER. But I’m sure Timberlake just wants to be advertised in future projects as “Academy Award Nominee Justin Timberlake.”
I think he’s a good actor and has a future, but is his time now?
