Justin Lin to produce new digital Knight Rider series with Machinima

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Do you remember the Knight Rider reboot from 2008? Neither does anyone else, which is why NBCUniversal is looking to reboot the classic ’80s series that originally featured David Hasselhoff riding around in a sentient car with more gadgets than a James Bond movie. This time around, Justin Lin of FAST & FURIOUS fame will be partnering with Machinima (Mortal Kombat: Legacy) to craft a digital series.

Machinima CEO Chad Gutstein:

Knight Rider is an iconic franchise whose concepts of AI and autonomous vehicles were science fiction in the 1980s and are now science fact. Justin is one of the leading storytellers of his generation and we couldn’t be more excited to work with him on re-invigorating Knight Rider for a new generation of fans.

Machinima has created some fan-favorite entertainment over the years, so having them partner up with Justin Lin is an exciting prospect. Lin knows how to craft an ensemble piece (STAR TREK BEYOND was a lot of fun!) so I’m curious to see how he’ll work with a story that’s primarily about a boy and his car. At the very least, I don’t think there’s going to be a ton of hype for this, so that leaves little room for disappointment. Cue the theme!
