The internet is a weird and wild place that's capable of lifting you up and bringing you back down, but chances are the high you’ll get from reading Justin Bieber’s challenge to Tom Cruise for a fight may take some time to come down from. Oh, no, today is not April 1st, and indeed, the pop star and tattoo enthusiast took to Twitter last night to inexplicably challenge the Oscar-nominated actor and star of the MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE movies to an MMA fight because, clearly, he has never seen any of the actor's movies.

“I wanna challenge Tom Cruise to fight in the octagon,” The Biebs tweeted at 5:30 PM on a Sunday. “Tom if you dont take this fight your scared and you will never live it down. Who is willing to put on the fight?”
Though he tagged UFC President Dana White in the tweet it was famous fighter Conor McGregor who offered to put up the fight. “If Tom Cruise is man enough to accept this challenge, McGregor Sports and Entertainment will host the bout,” he wrote. “Does Cruise have the sprouts to fight, like he does in the movies? Stay tuned to find out!”
Now, the chances of this happening are about as realistic as me being cast as Ethan Hunt’s long-lost son in the seventh M: I movie and the internet is having the time of its life posting clever memes and videos in response to the tweet. This includes GIFs from Cruise’s movies, like TOP GUN and TROPIC THUNDER, and even director Kevin Smith got in on the fun.

Clearly, this would never happen because Cruise is a 56-year-old grown man with responsibilities and has movies to make and a family to spend time with, while Bieber is a 25-year-old person who I assume is aware of what the concept of voting is, but isn't quite sure how to do it. But everyone is having fun with it because why wouldn't they, what with all the rich material from the movie star's career to pluck from. Look, Bieber is taking to the internet to talk shit for whatever reason, and I hope he realizes that Cruise – having actually run across the tallest building in the world and then clung onto the side of a soaring airplane all for the magic of movies – is not the kind of person to go into projects unprepared.
