Justice League: Zack Snyder wanted a romance between Bruce Wayne & Lois Lane

I'll admit to believing that the Snyder Cut of Justice League was nothing more than a pipe dream of fans who were upset about the theatrical version of the film, but here we are, less than a month away from the debut of Zack Snyder's Justice League on HBO Max. I'll prepare my crow. This new version will clock in at over four hours and will finally bring Snyder's vision to life, and Vanity Fair's Anthony Breznican dropped one hell of a feature earlier today about how the Snyder Cut came to be and what sort of surprises we're in for.

Among the many tidbits which the feature revealed was that Zack Snyder was considering including a romance between Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) and Lois Lane (Amy Adams) before Warner Bros. stepped in to nix the idea.

The intention was that Bruce fell in love with Lois and then realized that the only way to save the world was to bring Superman back to life. So he had this insane conflict, because Lois, of course, was still in love with Superman. We had this beautiful speech where [Bruce] said to Alfred: ‘I never had a life outside the cave. I never imagined a world for me beyond this. But this woman makes me think that if I can get this group of gods together, then my job is done. I can quit. I can stop.’ And of course that doesn’t work out for him.

It certainly would have been interesting to see, particularly how Clark Kent (Henry Cavill) might have reacted once he was resurrected, but based on what Snyder said, it doesn't necessarily sound like Lois would have reciprocated Bruce's affection beyond friendship and mutual respect. What do you think? Was this something you'd like to have seen, or was Warner Bros. correct in overruling Snyder's idea this time around?

The official synopsis for Zack Snyder's Justice League:

In ZACK SNYDER’S JUSTICE LEAGUE, determined to ensure Superman’s (Henry Cavill) ultimate sacrifice was not in vain, Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) aligns forces with Diana Prince (Gal Gadot) with plans to recruit a team of metahumans to protect the world from an approaching threat of catastrophic proportions. The task proves more difficult than Bruce imagined, as each of the recruits must face the demons of their own pasts to transcend that which has held them back, allowing them to come together, finally forming an unprecedented league of heroes. Now united, Batman (Affleck), Wonder Woman (Gadot), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), Cyborg (Ray Fisher) and The Flash (Ezra Miller) may be too late to save the planet from Steppenwolf, DeSaad and Darkseid and their dreadful intentions.

Zack Snyder's Justice League will debut on HBO Max on March 18, 2021.
