Gal Gadot has finally confirmed reports that director Joss Whedon threatened her career during reshoots on Justice League. The reports were anonymous via an expose from "The Hollywood Reporter" but, in a new interview with Israeli news outlet N12, the actress is confirming those reports herself.
In a "Hollywood Reporter" story released back in April, the alleged mistreatment of Justice League actor Ray Fisher was the focus of the piece. To support his claims, various sources were interviewed for the story but some remained anonymous. One of them mentioned as a "knowledgeable source" said Gadot clashed with Whedon and in response, the director threatened to damage Gadot's career and he also made disparaging remarks about Wonder Woman director, Patty Jenkins. Gadot confirms this part of the story by saying "He kind of threatened my career and said if I did something, he would make my career miserable and I just took care of it instead."
The biggest cash between the two came when Whedon pushed Gadot to record lines that she didn't like, which made him make the threats along with trashing Jenkins. In the story, it states "A witness on the production who later spoke to investigators says that after one clash, 'Joss was bragging that he's had it out with Gal.' 'He told her he's the writer and that she's going to shut up and say the lines and he can make her look incredibly stupid in this movie."
Previously, neither Whedon nor Gadot confirmed the source's story to "The Hollywood Reporter." While Whedon has still remained silent as all of these claims have emerged against him, this is the first time that Gadot confirmed the validity of the claims in the "Hollywood Reporter" article. Before the expose was released, the only comments Gadot made on the matter was "I had my issues with Whedon and Warner Bros. handled it in a timely manner."
Back in December, Gadot told the "Los Angeles Times" that "I wasn't there with the guys when they shot with Joss Whedon, I had my own experience with him, which wasn't the best one, but I took care of it there and when it happened. I took it to the higher-ups and they took care of it. But I'm happy for Ray to go up and say his truth." Gadot seems to be referencing that she wasn't around when shooting with Whedon became problematic for Fisher and the rest of the cast and crew but she did have her own interaction with him that was unpleasant. We now know that interaction was Whedon threatening her career if she didn't do what he wanted her to do.
Joss Whedon was brought in to finish Justice League after Zack Snyder left the project due to a family tragedy. According to "The Hollywood Reporter" piece, Gadot had multiple concerns with Whedon's version of the film, including "issues about her character being more aggressive than her character in Wonder Woman. She wanted to make the character flow from one movie to the next." At this point, Gadot had created a solid working relationship with director Patty Jenkins and they both crafted what the character was meant to be in her solo film. It's clear that this vision didn't match Whedon's and that led to an uncomfortable moment between the director and Gadot.
I honestly think that Gal Gadot has been pretty professional throughout this entire ordeal. She could trash Whedon more thoroughly but she has been careful to express what he did without going into extensive detail. What she has said is enough to get what she went through working with Whedon and it makes it clear that he obviously was going through an absurd power trip that went much too far.
