In DC Comics' Death of Superman storyline, the Man of Steel seemingly died while battling Doomsday, but, as no one really dies in comics, Superman was revealed to have been placed in a regeneration matrix in the Fortress of Solitude. When he emerged, he was greatly weakened and sporting a new black suit. BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE and JUSTICE LEAGUE borrowed from some of that storyline, and although Superman's resurrection played out much differently, it was thought that the black suit would make an appearance, especially as Henry Cavill himself may have teased the suit last year, but, sadly, the black suit was nowhere to be seen.
While speaking with Inverse, JUSTICE LEAGUE director of photography Fabian Wagner revealed that scenes with Superman's black suit were actually shot, although they obviously didn't make it to the final cut.
"There were [scenes shot],” Wagner said. “It’s a cool looking costume. Sadly, we didn’t see that either in the final cut.”
To the surprise of no one, Fabian Wagner added that "quite a few scenes" didn't make the theatrical release of JUSTICE LEAGUE. "There are a few scenes that I was very much looking forward to seeing which unfortunately got cut," Wagner said, referring specifically to a scene we saw in the trailers, in which Alfred (Jeremy Irons) speaks to an unknown character who appears while he's doing a little car maintenance. Wagner wasn't about to spoil the surprise of just who it was, many believe it to be Superman, but the cinematographer did promise that the scene may surface one day. Perhaps in the JUSTICE LEAGUE Blu-ray release?
JUSTICE LEAGUE is now playing in theaters.
