The Night Agent‘s Gabriel Basso could have a new assignment now that he’s in talks to join the cast of Clint Eastwood’s next and final film, Juror #2. Eastwood directs from a script by Jonathan Abrams (Destination Wedding, Escape Plan), with a story during a murder trial. When one of the jurors (Nicholas Hoult) seeks to protect the defendant without putting himself in jeopardy, he progressively realizes he may have caused the victim’s death in a careless driving accident. With the dark truth looming, the juror must decide to lie and reveal the truth about the case. Does he turn himself in? Does he let the defendant hang? Toni Collette will play the prosecutor in the complicated legal matter.
The 92-year-old filmmaker, who directed Gran Torino, Sully, The Bridges of Madison Country, and more, welcomes Hoult, Collette, Zoey Deutch, and Kiefer Sutherland to the cast, with Basso circling a mystery role.
Basso is lighting up screens thanks partly to his breakout role in Netflix’s The Night Agent. Based on the novel by Matthew Quirk, The Night Agent is a sophisticated, character-based, action-thriller centering on a low-level FBI Agent who works in the basement of the White House, operating a phone that never rings — until the night that it does, propelling him into a fast-moving and dangerous conspiracy that ultimately leads to the Oval Office.
The Night Agent debuted as the third most-watched series on Netflix and is the streamer’s fifth most popular English-language series of all time.
Eastwood hopes to roll cameras by mid-June, making him 93 when filming kicks into high gear. For those of you keeping score, Eastwood will be one of the oldest filmmakers working in Hollywood when Juror # 2 makes Hoult’s character sweat through a crisis of conscience.
Have you watched Netflix’s The Night Agent? Is Basso a good fit for one of Eastwood’s gritty film projects? With a villainous role in Renny Harlin’s The Strangers remake and starring alongside Jessica Alba in Mouly Surya’s Trigger Warning thriller on the way, Basso’s future looks so bright he’ll need to wear shades.
