The North American premiere of Jurassic World: Dominion took place last night in Los Angeles and the first reactions are now in. While full reviews are still under embargo until tomorrow, social media reactions are allowed and they seem to be a mixed bag of fun dino-action and the worst of the franchise.
Judging from the early reactions, it looks like most think it’s an improvement over Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, which came in rotten on Rotten Tomatoes at 47%. However, there are some saying this is the most ridiculous entry of the franchise and are calling it a missed opportunity. Some of the early notices praise the return of Sam Neill, Laura Dern, and Jeff Goldblum while others seem to think the film is preposterous but still a lot of fun. It will be interesting to see how this mixed response affects the film’s box office potential as it’s expected to do great business this weekend. The franchise seems to be review proof because even the 47% rotten Fallen Kingdom still grossed $1.3 billion worldwide. Universal Pictures already rolled out the film in a limited capacity overseas in 15 international markets ahead of this weekend and it has already grossed $55.4 million. Our review of the film will be dropping tomorrow but, until then, enjoy some of the early first reactions below!
Per Universal Pictures, director Colin Trevorrow will lead us on an adventure that “takes place four years after Isla Nublar has been destroyed. Dinosaurs now live—and hunt—alongside humans all over the world. This fragile balance will reshape the future and determine, once and for all, whether human beings are to remain the apex predators on a planet they now share with history’s most fearsome creatures. Jurassic World Dominion, from Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment, propels the more than $5 billion franchise into daring, uncharted territory, featuring never-seen dinosaurs, breakneck action, and astonishing new visual effects.”
Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, who has led this new trilogy of Jurassic films, will be joined by original franchise stars Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum, and Sam Neill. Universal Pictures describes Jurassic World: Dominion as a “bold, timely, and breathtaking new adventure that spans the globe.” Also joining the cast are DeWanda Wise, Mamoudou Athie, Dichen Lachman, Scott Haze, and Campbell Scott. Returning cast members also include B.D. Wong, Justice Smith, Daniella Pineda, and Omar Sy.
