Universal spares no expense and pushes Jurassic World: Dominion back to 2022

It seems that we'll have to wait a year longer than we thought for the grand finale to the JURASSIC WORLD trilogy. Universal Pictures announced today that they'll be pushing the release of JURASSIC WORLD: DOMINION from June 11, 2021 to June 10, 2022. It's been said that this doesn't have anything to do with a delay in the production, which is just three weeks out from wrapping, but rather about making sure that everything is ready to go in terms of the film's ancillary attachments, such as theme parks, consumer products, toys, live events, and more.

Blockbusters as big as JURASSIC WORLD: DOMINION come with all manner of retail partners and products, and a shifting release date can mean big losses as promotional campaigns either need to be redone, delayed, or are released too early. We've already seen that several times this year, particularly with WONDER WOMAN 1984, which pushed a big Doritos campaign throughout the summer. That film was delayed several times before finally settling on a December 25, 2020 release (and I would bet we'll see that date move yet again.) In a tweet, director Colin Trevorrow said, "For the past three months, I’ve worked with an extraordinary cast and crew on a film we can’t wait to share with the world. Even though we'll have to wait a bit longer, it will all be worth it. Let’s stay healthy and take care of each other until then." Universal Pictures has also released a new poster for JURASSIC WORLD: DOMINION, which you can check out below.

Although we'll have to wait a little longer than we thought for more dinosaur action, I've got my fingers crossed that JURASSIC WORLD: DOMINION will conclude the trilogy on a good note, particularly as the film will see the return of Jeff Goldblum as Dr. Ian Malcolm, Sam Neill as Dr. Alan Grant, and Laura Dern as Dr. Ellie Sattler. Colin Trevorrow has previously said that the original JURASSIC PARK trio will have some major roles in JURASSIC WORLD: DOMINION. "I think people may be underestimating the size and importance of Laura Dern and Sam Neill and Jeff Goldblum’s characters in this movie," Trevorrow said. "It is very much an ensemble. That element – the ability to take these beloved characters from almost 30 years now and understand how they interact with each other in the context of a world we’ve really never seen before and not been able to witness until now is very exciting for me." The director also teased that JURASSIC WORLD: DOMINION "is the movie I’ve been waiting to make since the beginning. It’s the one we have spent the past two movies building to. It really was part of a larger story and part of a design."

JURASSIC WORLD: DOMINION will hit theaters on June 10, 2022.
