When Steven Spielberg's JURASSIC PARK burst onto the scene close to thirty years ago, much attention was paid to its ground-breaking visual-effects, but the real stars of the show in my opinion were the amazing animatronic dinosaurs, which, unfortunately, were slowly taken over by CG with each successive sequel. Naturally, the more recent JURASSIC WORLD largely embraced CG over animatronics, but the "real-life" dinosaurs made a bit of a comeback with JURASSIC WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM, and that trend will hopefully continue with JURASSIC WORLD 3, the conclusion of the new trilogy.

JURASSIC WORLD director Colin Trevorrow will return to take the helm of the third film, and he recently posted a short video on Twitter featuring an animatronic baby Nasutoceratops, which was seen in JURASSIC WORLD: BATTLE AT BIG ROCK short-film.

Colin Trevorrow has also said that JURASSIC WORLD 3 will be closer in tone to Steven Spielberg's 1993 JURASSIC PARK than either JURASSIC WORLD or JURASSIC WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM, saying "If I could contextualize each film, I would say Jurassic World was an action adventure, Fallen Kingdom is kind of a horror suspense film, and Jurassic World 3 will be a science thriller in the same way that Jurassic Park was."

JURASSIC WORLD 3 will also feature the return of Jeff Goldblum as Dr. Ian Malcolm, Sam Neill as Dr. Alan Grant, and Laura Dern as Dr. Ellie Sattler. Last year, Colin Trevorrow, who is co-writing the script alongside Emily Carmichael, discussed why the time was finally right to bring back the original JURASSIC PARK trio, and why they weren't included in the first JURASSIC WORLD film.

We’d have had to come up with a reason why Ellie, Malcolm and Grant all went to the theme park on the exact same day it broke down – again. The next film allows the legacy characters to be a part of the story in an organic way. Emily Carmichael and I call it ‘Jurassic Park VI’, because it is.

Although we caught a glimpse of Jeff Goldblum in JURASSIC WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM, we haven't seen Sam Neill and Laura Dern since JURASSIC PARK III, nearly twenty years ago. "You start asking the most basic questions: who are these people now? What do they make of the new world they’re living in, and how do they feel about being part of its history?" Trevorrow teased. "Ultimately it will be in collaboration with the actors. They know and love these characters. We’ll do it together." JURASSIC WORLD 3 is set for a June 11, 2021 release.
