Disney’s Jungle Cruise starred Dwayne Johnson as a boat captain who takes a sister (Emily Blunt) and her brother (Jack Whitehall) on a mission to find a tree believed to possess remarkable healing powers. Along the way, they dealt with wild animals as well as a rival German expedition also seeking the same treasure. It didn’t take long for the studio to get the ball moving on a Jungle Cruise sequel that will find Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt reprising their roles.
While speaking with Screen Rant, producer Hiram Garcia teased that the Jungle Cruise sequel will take Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt to different parts of the world as they explore new supernatural mysteries.
Now that the fans [have] embraced us and have been asking for a sequel, we really start to have fun! We’ve met these two characters who share amazing chemistry and the world is at our disposal. We’re talking about a lot of big, fun concepts that take us to different places in the world. Who knows what mysteries and supernatural things these guys are going to encounter? I can’t give anything away, but I can tell you we are bringing the whole team back.
Hiram Garcia continued, “Through the first film, we formed great friendships and love and I think this will continue for the sequel. Our established relationships are going to benefit the film even more. We’re excited with all the ideas we’ve been brainstorming on and we’re determined to get going as fast as possible.” Michael Green, who co-wrote the first film, will be back to write the Jungle Cruise sequel, with Jaume Collet-Serra also returning to the directors chair.
