Jumanji fans recreate the original board game with next level detail

The original JUMANJI, starring the late Robin Williams as Alan Parrish, an OG victim of the enchanted board game's twisted teleportation into a dangerous jungle, is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. And so, as a way of celebrating the 1995 Joe Johnston-directed classic, a group of die hard fans have fashioned a replica of the original board game! Good for them, right? Well, what if I were to tell you that the game is up for sale, and that you too can purchase a copy of your very own? Ah, now you're on board, eh?

As the website Cool Material points out, the box is "made of three separate pieces of a carefully selected type of hard wood that is knot-free, milled and hand-finished to movie level specifications before being stained, sanded and varnished to perfection." What's more is that each token has been printed in high-quality 3D that's been hand-painted to look exactly like the ones featured in Johnston's family adventure flick. Furthermore, each token has been outfitted with a neodymium magnet that makes it stick to the board. Oh, and do you remember the game's swirling green eye at the center of the board? Yeah, this replica has got that too! In fact, the game comes complete with a 7″ TFT display, Raspberry Pi and LiPo battery underneath the board. In other words, all of those components work in concert with one another to display the game's riddles and instructions. Last but not least, the game even features built in sensors that automatically play the drum music from the two speakers whenever you pick the board up.

Okay, Steve, this all sounds awesome, but what's the catch? Well, the rub is that the game will cost you $293. Honestly though, can you really put a price on something this cool? Imagine being the envy of all your Jumanji-loving friends when you break this puppy out during your next group game night. You know, after the coronavirus pandemic is behind us and whatnot. Truth be told, I'm tempted to pick a copy up for myself. Well, maybe not, seeing as just last night I'd purchased the band Failure's 1992-1996 Vinyl Box Set to the tune of $160 clams. But hey, maybe if I don't have to pay for gas during the next couple of months, I can convince myself to go full-Jumanji on this bassass item.
