Juliette Lewis joins Jon Chu’s Jem and the Holograms

Production on Jon Chu's live-action JEM AND THE HOLOGRAMS movie is already underway, but it looks like there was still at least one more part that still needed to be cast. Deadline is reporting Juliette Lewis has joined the film, however her character's identity is being kept under wraps.

JEM AND THE HOLOGRAMS is based on the 1980s animated series (although it will be reimagined for a new generation) and "centers on an orphaned teenage girl who becomes an online recording sensation. She and her sisters embark on a music-driven scavenger hunt — one that sends them on an adventure across Los Angeles in an attempt to unlock a final message left by her father."

I only vaguely remember watching an episode or two of the TV series when I was younger (much, much younger), so I have no clue who Juliette Lewis might be playing in the film. I will say Lewis should be a great fit for the musical film since she's a bit of a musician herself (she fronted the band Juliette and the Licks before launching a solo career in 2009), and I've always been a big fan of the actress ever since first seeing her in Martin Scorsese's CAPE FEAR.

Jem fans: what do you think Juliette Lewis' role will be in Jon Chu's movie?

JEM AND THE HOLOGRAMS currently doesn't have a release date, but will likely hit theaters sometime in 2015.
