It's a pirates life for Jude Law! The actor is in final talks to play Captain Hook in Disney's live-action PETER PAN AND WENDY, directed by David Lowery. The film will be a retelling of the classic 1953 animated film.
This will be the fourth attempt to tell a variation of the Peter Pan and Wendy story in some kind of live-action form. The first, and the most popular with fans but not its director Steven Spielberg, was 1991's HOOK, which starred Robin Williams, Julia Roberts, and Dustin Hoffman as Captain Hook. The 2003 film PETER PAN had Jason Isaacs taking on the Captain Hook role and that was followed in 2015 with the film PAN, which starred Hugh Jackman but ultimately failed at the box office. Perhaps this new take will be the one that sticks this time.
Lowery has already gotten his feet wet with a live-action Disney film having directed PETE'S DRAGON in 2016. The film was a moderate box office success but it was well-liked by critics, scoring an 88% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Disney's live-action efforts have proven to be very successful for the studio overall with films like THE LION KING, BEAUTY AND THE BEAST and ALADDIN all clearing $1 billion at the worldwide box office.
Jude Law will be joining Ever Anderson as Wendy and Alexander Molony as Peter Pan in the film written by Toby Holbrooks and based on the J.M. Barrie novel. Disney actually paused shooting on PETER PAN & WENDY back on March 13 when the coronavirus pandemic made productions' go dark all over the world. Perhaps the time away allowed the studio to begin talks with Law to take on the villainous role of Captain Hook. Law is already a member of the Disney family via Marvel having appeared in 2019's CAPTAIN MARVEL.
Do YOU think Jude Law is the right choice to play Captain Hook?
