If you enjoyed Jude Law scruffing it up for DOM HEMINGWAY, it looks like that streak will continue on into his next role in the submarine thriller BLACK SEA. Law portrays a down on his luck marine salvager who finds himself with no family, no job and no money. Promises of Russian gold in a sunken U-boat are too much to pass up, attracting the shadiest of characters, as this trailer beautifully illustrates.
Take a look!
The synopsis is as follows:
A suspenseful adventure thriller directed by Academy Award winner Kevin Macdonald, centering on a rogue submarine captain (two-time Academy Award nominee Jude Law) who pulls together a misfit crew to go after a sunken treasure rumored to be lost in the depths of the Black Sea. As greed and desperation take control onboard their claustrophobic vessel, the increasing uncertainty of the mission causes the men to turn on each other to fight for their own survival.
The claustrophobic nature of submarines really lends itself to bringing an audience to the edge of their seats. There's nowhere for the characters to run and you're left with the constant reminder that if the proceedings turn sour, that boat may very well end up at the bottom of the ocean . It's been a while since I've caught a good U-boat flick (BELOW was decent) but I'm looking forward to seeing what director Kevin Macdonald (THE EAGLE, THE LAST KING OF SCOTLAND) has in store for us.
BLACK SEA will be released on January 23, 2015.
