Jude Law & Carrie Coon’s marriage crumbles in trailer for The Nest

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

It's been nearly ten years since the release of MARTHA MARCY MAY MARLENE, but writer/director Sean Durkin has finally returned with his second film, and IFC Film have released the first trailer for THE NEST, which looks like it has the potential to be one hell of a film. The dramatic thriller stars Jude Law (The New Pope) as an ambitious entrepreneur and former commodities broker who persuades his American wife, Allison, played by the great Carrie Coon (GHOSTBUSTERS: AFTERLIFE), and their children to leave the comforts of suburban America and return to his native England during the 1980s.

Our own Chris Bumbray, and new Managing Editor of JoBlo.com, caught THE NEST at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. As expected, Bumbray says that the film is "anchored by a pair of powerhouse performances by Jude Law and Carrie Coon, as the yuppie parents suddenly unmoored by the notion that they may not be quite as upwardly mobile as they thought. While set in the eighties, the message is just as relevant now, with it a cautionary tale of how our overwhelming desire to project wealth may give the illusion of success but hides real struggles that are bound to come out sooner or later." You can read the rest of Bumbray's review right here.

The official synopsis for THE NEST:

Rory (Jude Law), an ambitious entrepreneur and former commodities broker, who persuades his American wife, Allison (Carrie Coon), and their children to leave the comforts of suburban America and return to his native England during the 1980s. Sensing opportunity, Rory rejoins his former firm and leases a centuries-old country manor, with grounds for Allison’s horses and plans to build a stable. Soon the promise of a lucrative new beginning starts to unravel, the couple have to face the unwelcome truths lying beneath the surface of their marriage.

THE NEST is slated to hit theaters on September 18, 2020.
