While some may say the GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY movie is a pretty big gamble for Marvel I think their upcoming S.H.I.E.L.D television show is just as big. Are people going to watch a show in the Marvel Universe that doesn’t have contributions from well known comic characters?

Joss Whedon was at the 2013 Steamy Awards and talked to TV Line about why he’s excited for the show:

I’m excited about the show because it’s a very hopeful show. It’s not about murder, and it’s not about crime, and it’s not people looking into their own belly buttons. It’s about people who are trying to help each other, and that’s one of the things I loved about comic books. They had costumes and the villains were cool [but] they stood for something, and I like doing a show that does that.

Joss Whedon also goes on to talk about wanting to make sure the new characters for the show are developed:

Right now, I want to involve people in the characters that we’ve created for the show, and then we’ll worry about [the other stuff].

One familiar face we may see, if only briefly, is Colbie Smulders as Maria Hill but with her heavy work schedule it remains to be seen if she’ll be able to make a cameo.

I’m hopeful for this show especially with Joss Whedon at the helm. There still aren’t any details on what the pilot is about but we do know it did finish filming last week and stars Ming-Na, Clark Gregg, Chloe Bennet, Elizabeth Henstridge, Iain De Caestecker and Brett Dalton.
