I was out of the country when news came down that THE AVENGERS sequel would now be known as THE AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON. As much as anyone, I had a full nerdgasm at the possibilities that this news conveyed. But, now that the dust is beginning to settle a bit, we are beginning to get more news about what the inclusion of Ultron means for the Marvel Cinematic Universe from Joss Whedon himself.
Marvel has posted a new video from their Marvel Live! coverage from Comic Con and explained that just because the comics have Hank Pym (aka AntMan) as the creator of the robot menace, that doesn’t mean he will be in the film.
“We’re doing our own version of the origin story of Ultron, and the other thing is, in the origin story there was Hank Pym, so a lot of people assumed he was going to be in the mix, but he’s not, because we’re basically taking the things from the comics for the movies that we need and can use. A lot of stuff has to fall by the wayside. We’re crafting our own version of it where his origin comes more directly from the Avengers we already know about.”
I am putting my money on Ultron being created by Tony Stark which forces him back into his Iron Man gear after being in retirement. This would capitalize on the ending of IRON MAN 3 and also give a nice way for Robert Downey Jr. to jump back into the storyline. Either way, THE AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON looks to be a step up from the first movie and the screenplay isn’t even complete yet.
THE AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON hits theaters on May 1, 2015.
