Joss Whedon has deactivated his Twitter account, and although the director hasn't revealed why he quit the social media service, many believe it's because of the online criticism he has received for AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON.
Some critics are claiming the film is misogynist because of the portrayal of Scarlett Johannson's Black Widow, arguing that her character was "slut-shamed" in THE AVENGERS sequel. Others aren't happy about plot holes in the movie, and the relationship between Black Widow and Mark Ruffalo's Bruce Banner. While some think Whedon deleted his account because he was simply done promoting AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON, there's speculation that he received death threats due to his handling of the Marvel movie. Joss Whedon's final tweet was, "Thank you to all the people who've been so kind and funny and inspiring up in here."
I understand fans not being happy about a movie and venting about it online, however telling a director to "die" or "go kill yourself" is completely uncalled for. Some will say Joss Whedon "deserves" this because of his comment on the JURASSIC WORLD clip, but again, there's no need for extremely nasty and personal criticism. JoBlo.com will miss you on Twitter, Mr. Whedon, and you're still badass in our book.
