THOR: RAGNAROK has been getting rave review upon rave review since the embargo lifted last week, and as we near the release date more and more people will begin to see it, but the consensus is already in: This is one of Marvel’s best, if not the best. That's high praise considering THE AVENGERS is in that group, but even the director of that film, Joss Whedon, has fallen in love with Taika Waititi’s addition into the MCU.
The former Marvel go-to guy, who also directed AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON and served as a creative consultant for other Marvel Phase 2 movies, recently saw the latest THOR movie, and took to Twitter to praise Waititi for making what he considered a “modern masterpiece.” Oh, and I think he thought it was hilarious. But that’s sort of in the subtext:
Here’s the thing: @TaikaWaititi has made a modern masterpiece. Epic, hilarious, gorgeous, heartfelt, and hilarious. I’m SO HAPPY #hilarious pic.twitter.com/ItsTcmeVN4

Though Whedon had a heavy hand in the Marvel movies up till AVENGERS 2, he has recently stepped up to help finish JUSTICE LEAGUE after Zack Snyder had to step away to be with his family. He is also slated to helm a BATGIRL movie for the studio, and though some saw it as odd why he would jump ship from Marvel to DC, even Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige couldn't be more thrilled Whedon's voice will be lent to some DC's classic characters.
Though Whedon's opinion is far from final say on quality, in this case, given his work in the superhero field, I think his opinion certainly has some credibility and weight. At the end of the day, it's just amazing to see all this praise coming out for the movie, especially from people who have spent so much time in the superhero game. I always hoped it would be a funny, adventurous film, but it seems Waititi and Co. have taken everything to the next level, and finally given Thor (Chris Hemsworth) a solo outing on par with the best of the other solo movie outings (IRON MAN, CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER). It's taken some time, but clearly, it's time we bow down and accept the God of Thunder as our savior. I am already planning on going door to door to spread the good Word.
