Yesterday saw the release of the first clip from Colin Treverrow's JURASSIC WORLD, showcasing Bryce Dallas Howard's Claire and Chris Pratt's Owen talking shop and a little bit of history including the one date they've been on. It was definitely some more lighthearted fare, given where the flick is inevitably headed. Not everyone was a fan, however, as AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON writer/director Joss Whedon took to Twitter to give his thoughts about the scene.
When I first started watching the clip, I felt Bryce's character was a little stilted. When the mention of a date came up, it made more sense. It's hard to see the bigger picture from just one clip, but I get the sense that she's putting up a bit of a front given her position and her relationship with Pratt's character, and that she's much less of a stiff than she's making herself out to be. Now, talking sexism in cinema is opening a huge can of worms, so I'm not going to go there, but I will say that we should probably see how the movie plays out and judge the characters accordingly. Besides, there are plenty of other movies where the man plays the stiff and the woman the "life-force." Just sayin'.
JURASSIC WORLD hits cinemas on June 12, 2015.
Do you agree with Joss Whedon's sentiment over the clip?
