WWE Studios and Robert Halmi Jr.’s Great Point Media are moving forward with a biopic about Golden Age professional wrestler Gorgeous George (real name George Raymond Wagner), and it's been announced that they've tapped Josh Gad and his writing partner Ryan Dixon to pen the script. Gad and Dixon don't have that many writing credits to their name, but they did write the script for the planned TWINS sequel TRIPLETS.
Simply titled GORGEOUS GEORGE, the film "will chronicle the life and career of Wagner, the professional wrestler and sports entertainer credited with inspiring the flamboyant personas of performers such as Muhammad Ali and James Brown and helping bring sports into the TV age."
WWE Studios President Michael Luisi on hiring Gad and Dixon:
Gorgeous George was a true pioneer in television. Josh is a true talent and we are thrilled to see him and Ryan tackle such a groundbreaking story.
A movie about the legendary wrestler could be captivating if done right, however I haven't been impressed with most of WWE Studio's movies. Are you interested in checking out a Gorgeous George biopic?
Josh Gad provided the voice of Chuck for the upcoming THE ANGRY BIRDS MOVIE, which is due in theaters on May 20, 2016, and recently finished filming for Disney and director Bill Condon's live-action BEAUTY AND THE BEAST film.
