Amazon Studios has tapped Josh Brolin (AVENGERS: ENDGAME) to star in Outer Range, a new thriller which the streaming service has given a series order. Brolin will play Royal Abbott, a rancher fighting for his territory and family at the edge of Wyoming's wilderness who must grapple with the unknown after discovering an unfathomable mystery on his land.
Outer Range comes to Amazon from Brian Watkins, a Juilliard Lila Acheson Wallace Playwriting Fellow and a New Dramatists resident playwright who will be stepping into the realm of television for the first time. Watkins and Brolin will executive produce Outer Range along with with Zev Borow, Heather Rae, and Brad Pitt's Plan B Entertainment. This won't be the first time that Josh Brolin has appeared on the small screen, but it has been a while since the actor last had a major role on television. Brolin starred in Mister Sterling (2003) and Winnetka Road (1994), but both series where short-lived and cancelled before either got to a dozen episodes. Prior to those shows, Brolin played James Butler Hickcok in The Young Riders, a western series which aired on ABC from 1989-92.
Josh Brolin has several projects just over the horizon, including playing Gurney Halleck in Denis Villeneuve's star-studded DUNE, which also features Timothée Chalamet (THE KING), Rebecca Ferguson (DOCTOR STRANGE), Oscar Isaac (STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER), Stellan Skarsgard (THOR), Dave Bautista (BLADE RUNNER 2049), Javier Bardem (PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES), Zendaya (SPIDER-MAN: FAR FROM HOME), Jason Momoa (AQUAMAN), David Dastmalchian (ANT-MAN AND THE WASP), and more. DUNE will hit theaters on December 18, 2020. Brolin also recently wrapped production on FLAG DAY, a drama which stars Sean Penn (who also directed) and Miles Teller.
