Josh Brolin talks missing out on Playing Zack Snyder’s Batman

Here’s a story I definitely didn’t know! Before Ben Affleck won the role of Bruce Wayne/Batman in Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Josh Brolin was considered for the part and now the actor is talking about missing out on the opportunity.

During an interview with the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Brolin reveals that he was under consideration to play the Caped Crusader and he didn’t turn the role down. Zack Snyder ultimately decided to go with Ben Affleck but Brolin said he was excited about the prospect of taking on the character and admitted that he hasn’t completely given up on playing an older Bruce Wayne:

“That was interesting to me. That was his decision. That wasn’t my decision. That was his decision. Again, because, like something that is set up to not work at all, or to work flyingly, I like those odds. I like playing with those odds. I’m like, ‘Am I the guy who’s gonna make it all fail?’ By the way, who I didn’t think was bad, but you know, you talk to Clooney and he’s still joking about it. And it wasn’t his fault! He loves the nipple joke and that was all Joel. But, you know, he didn’t do anything wrong. Because, again, that was before Deadpool 2. It would have been the older, more raspy, for lack of a better word… Honestly, that would have been a fun deal, and maybe I’ll do it when I’m 80.”

Josh Brolin has certainly filled his comic book movie quota since then. He portrayed Thanos in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and he got to portray Cable in Deadpool 2. I could totally see him as an older Bruce Wayne that has certainly seen his days of crime in Gotham City and maybe that is a possibility for him down the line.

Do YOU think Josh Brolin would’ve been a good Bruce Wayne/Batman in Zack Snyder’s DCEU?
