Sandworms beware! Legendary has announced that the '80s most athletic male Goonie, Josh Brolin, is joining the already stellar cast of Denis Villeneuve's adaptation of Frank Herbert’s bestselling novel Dune. Upon signing on the dotted line, Brolin has agreed to star alongside Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Dave Bautista, Stellan Skarsgård, Charlotte Rampling and Javier Bardem for the hotly-anticipated sci-fi spectacle.  Brolin will play Gurney Halleck, "a troubadour-swordsman loyal to the family who is instrumental in the wakening of Atreides’ cosmic powers which will start a revolution."

DUNE is set in the distant future, and tells the story of Paul Atreides, whose family accepts control of the desert planet Arrakis. As the only producer of a highly valuable resource, control of Arrakis is highly contested among the noble families. After Paul and his family are betrayed, the story explores themes of politics, religion, and man’s relationship to nature as Paul leads a rebellion to restore his family’s control of Arrakis.

Of course, up next for Brolin is his role as the Mad Titan, Thanos, for Marvel's AVENGERS: ENDGAME. Taking place after the devastating events of 2018's AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR, Endgame find the universe in ruins. With the help of their remaining allies, the Avengers assemble once more in order to undo Thanos' actions and restore order to the universe. Helmed by both Joe and Anthony Russo, AVENGERS: ENDGAME is likely to be one of the most anticipated fantasy action films of all-time.

Meanwhile, DUNE is produced by Villeneuve, Mary Parent and Cale Boyte. Thomas Tull is executive producing with Brian Herbert, Byron Merritt and Kim Herbert as representatives of the Frank Herbert estate. Also, Kevin J. Anderson will serve as a creative consultant on the film. The project is expected to represent the world of Dune like no one has ever seen before, thanks in-part to our modern day special effects and a team that's determined to make Herbert's future look terrfying as hell.

DUNE is now in pre-production.
