Josh Brolin down for a Thanos return if it makes sense for the MCU

Josh Brolin says he would reprise Thanos provided that it made sense within the MCU and gave him a reason to do so.

Kang being ousted from the Marvel Cinematic Universe following  Jonathan Majors’ guilty verdicts in assault and harassment cases left the keys to be handed over to Robert Downey Jr., who will play Doctor Doom in two upcoming Avengers movies. But we can’t forget about Thanos, the MCU’s biggest, baddest and purplest villain of them all. While Thanos apparently met his fate in Endgame, that doesn’t mean Josh Brolin wouldn’t be down to reprise him for another outing. After all, as we’ve learned, anything goes with Marvel.

Speaking with Collider, Josh Brolin said the decision to return as Thanos doesn’t just come down to the studio, but the material, something he has made a habit of. “I’m not kidding — There’s a thing with playing Thanos. It’s like, ‘Oh, they’re gonna bring Thanos back.’ It’s like Sicario [and sequel Day of the Soldado]; it has to be right. It’s like Ryan Reynolds and I talking about Taylor Swift and we should be talking about Deadpool 4 . But we go back and forth. Again, it’s what in his mind fits, what in my mind fits. Thanos has to fit if you’re going to bring him back. I would do anything that the Russos wanted me to do.”

Josh Brolin has been well aware that Thanos – like any Marvel character, really – could be brought back at any point, since rules and timelines can be manipulated at will. But one does have to wonder if this would be the right move. Thanos remains the quintessential villain of the MCU but the way he went out in Endgame seemed perfect, paving the way for another baddie to take his place. Kang obviously didn’t work out and the Doctor Doom casting has been controversial to say the least, but I don’t necessarily see Thanos coming back without groans from the fanbase. We’ve seen Marvel go back to the well, but we’d love to see Phase Six bring the MCU into a new and exciting direction – with or without Blade

What do you think? Should there be an opportunity for Josh Brolin to return as Thanos or should Marvel ensure they don’t get lured back into that storyline? Go for the head and let us know in the comments section below.
