Josh Boone stakes out Lestat; Interview With The Vampire not being remade

Earlier this month I shared the news that Universal had acquired the rights to Anne Rice’s anthology of novels, "The Vampire Chronicles". The deal covered every book in the series including the ones that have already been adapted with Brian Grazer’s Imagine Entertainment producing alongside Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci. Now THE FAULT IN OUR STARS director Josh Boone is in talks to write and direct an adaptation of THE VAMPIRE LESTAT, the centerpiece of Rice’s original trilogy of vampire novels. We also now know that INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE won’t be remade, for the time being anyways.

The Wrap's report says:

Boone is being eyed to both write and direct. Grazer, Kurtzman and Orci have signed off on Boone’s hiring, according to one insider, while Universal’s approval is expected to be a mere formality.

Lestat is set to be recast with from a mix of several different sources:

Rather than remake of “Interview With the Vampire,” the new film is expected to draw from the second and third books in Rice’s series — “The Vampire Lestat” and “The Queen of the Damned” — and will likely be faithful to the source material.

It's good to hear this project is beginning to move; I figured after the news release this month we wouldn't hear much more for a while. That's also a pretty big boast for Boone who has only has two features under his belt. They must have really cried a lot at THE FAULT IN OUR STARS.

Are you relived that there are no immediate plans for an INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE remake or were you looking forward to a new version?
