An adaptation of James Herbert's SHRINE (which you can purchase a copy of HERE) is gradually coming together at Screen Gems. It's been eleven months since we first heard the project would be happening, with Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert on board to produce through their company Ghost House. Nine months later, Jeffrey Dean Morgan signed on to star in the film. And two months after that, the film now has its female lead.
Jordana Brewster, best known for her role in the FAST & FURIOUS franchise, has signed on to star in SHRINE with Morgan. Brewster's previous genre credits include THE FACULTY, THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE: THE BEGINNING, and the upcoming RANDOM ACTS OF VIOLENCE. I've always been a fan of Brewster, so I'm glad to see her doing more horror work.
SHRINE will tell the story of
a disgraced journalist who discovers a series of seemingly divine miracles in a small New England town and uses them to resurrect his career, but the ‘miracles’ may have a much darker source.
Evan Spiliotopoulos will be directing the film from a screenplay he wrote himself. He is also producing the film with Raimi and Tapert. Romel Adam will be overseeing the production for Ghost House, while Scott Strauss and Michael Bitar do the same for Screen Gems.
SHRINE is scheduled to begin filming in February.
