Actor, filmmaker and all-around creator Jordan Peele has been quite busy over the last few years, working on what seems like an endless number of projects. One of them has been a reboot of the iconic series THE TWILIGHT ZONE, and now after years of gestating the series has received an official premiere date of April 1. And no, this is not a preemptive April Fool’s Day joke, just perfect timing.

Executive Vice President of Original Content for CBS All Access Julie McNamara was speaking at the Television Critics Association Press Tour recently when she announced the premiere date of the new ZONE. The first two episodes of the series will air at the very beginning of April, and then new episodes will air weekly every Thursday starting April 11. Executive produced by Peele through his Monkeypaw Productions label (alongside Simon Kinberg’s Genre Films), the Oscar winner will also be taking on the role of narrator/host, a position once ironically held by Rod Serling.
As for the cast, there’s still some mystery about which episodes they’ll be in, but so far we know roles will be filled by actors like Ike Barinholtz, John Cho, Lucinda Dryzek, Taissa Farmiga, Greg Kinnear, Luke Kirby, Sanaa Lathan, Kumail Nanjiani, Rhea Seehorn, Allison Tolman, Jacob Tremblay, Jefferson White, Jonathan Whitesell, Jessica Williams, DeWanda Wise and Steven Yeun. What we do know for certain is that Adam Scott (PARKS AND REC) will be starring in a remake of “Nightmare at 20,000 Feet,” one of the most well-known episodes from the original series.

Like many of you, I'm very interested in seeing what Peele and the team have cooked up for us come April with this new take on the series. BLACK MIRROR has done an excellent job delivering the sci-fi-themed thrills and commentary in recent years — and through an R-rated lens — but there's still plenty of room for some TWILIGHT ZONE, as long as it doesn't feel like a carbon copy of past incarnations. We got a taste of Peele's narration in the video above, and with this announcement perhaps a longer piece of footage isn't too far away.
THE TWILIGHT ZONE premieres April 1 on CBS All Access.
