Jordan Peele’s Get Out follow-up to open in 2019

It's going to take a while for us to get a gander at Jordan Peele's follow-up to GET OUT. Universal Pictures (which earlier today gave a release date to BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN) has dated Peele's untitled sophomore feature for March 15, 2019. Almost two years from now? C’mon.

Nothing is known about the film as of yet, but it's another "social thriller" in the vein of GET OUT. As Peele told this site back in February, all of his planned thrillers “bite off of a different human demon. Get Out is about several things but obviously it’s about race, the next one will be about something else.”

GET OUT is one of the more fascinating box office successes to come along in a while. Made for under $5 million, the film opened with $30 million back in February, on its way to grossing over $229 million worldwide. Peele is now one of the more in-demand voices in the genre, a fairly stunning turn of events considering he was primarily known for his comedic chops before now.

The untitled Peele film has some stiff competition that March: As Variety notes, it opens one week after the Brie Larson superhero pic CAPTAIN MARVEL and one month before Mike Dougherty's GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS. If it's half as good as GET OUT, this shouldn't be a problem.

Peele is also working on the HBO series LOVECRAFT COUNTRY alongside J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot production company. No release date is available for that one yet either, so it's possible we'll be seeing it before this new film's early 2019 debut.
