Ever since Jordan Peele's topical horror film GET OUT turned heads by breaking box office records, it feels as if everyone in Hollywood is looking to do business with the up-and-coming filmmaker. Today it's been announced that Amazon Studios has signed an exclusive first-look deal with the Oscar and Emmy award winner and his Monkeypaw Productions label.
It wasn't long ago that Peele inked a first-look TV deal with Sonar Entertainment, the result of which was THE HUNT, an intense, retribution Nazi drama, which was picked up for a straight-to-series order by Amazon last month. That being said, the aforementioned project is just the beginning for Peele's production studio. Also in the hopper is a drama based on Lorena Bobbitt, the woman who chopped off her husband's penis in an act of retaliation for his recurring, abusive behavior.
“Jordan, Win Rosenfeld, and the Monkeypaw team represent the ideal creative collaboration as we continue to ramp up original, culturally relevant and riveting television,” said Jennifer Salke, Head of Amazon Studios. “Our Lorena Bobbitt documentary and series order for The Hunt represent just the start of what will be a prolific and exciting relationship with Monkeypaw.”
“I couldn’t be more excited about this new relationship with Amazon,” Peele remarked, when talking about his recent partnership with Amazon Studios. “They’ve been a fantastic partner to Monkeypaw over the last year because they’re committed to the same kind of fun and culturally-relevant television we are.”
I've a sneaking suspicion that, in time, Peele will continue to stand as one of Hollywood's most in-demand players, as his penchant for bringing fresh ideas to the table has already been well documented. Strap in tight, folks, because I think this is going to be a long and entertaining ride.
