I don't think it would be a surprise to anyone out there that has seen writer-director Jordan Peele's horror-thriller GET OUT that the film was inspired by the novel THE STEPFORD WIVES by Ira Levin.
But what about ROSEMARY'S BABY?
I always tended to compare GET OUT to ROSEMARY'S BABY for the utter panic it caused in Peele's ability to hide the flick's true intentions right out in the open and then make us the viewers second guess the questions because they are so damn obvious.
Well, yes, it turns out that the major two inspirations for GET OUT were Ira Levin's two most famous novels of paranoia and fear, Rosemary's Baby and The Stepford Wives.
In a recent roundtable with THR, Pelle revealed the two inspirations and went a bit into how they helped him craft his paranoid thriller into the film it is today.
Jordan Peele on Ira Levin's ROSEMARY'S BABY and THE STEPFORD WIVES:
The Stepford Wives and Rosemary's Baby. Both [based on novels by] Ira Levin. What they did within the thriller genre was this very delicate tightrope walk that honored the protagonist in a way that you rarely see in the genre these days. The protagonists are smart and they're investigative, and there's an effort to justify why the character doesn't run screaming. That dance between showing something weird and then showing how easily it can be placed with reality was the technique I brought to Get Out.
