Jonathan Majors took real punches for Creed III

Jonathan Majors has been on a much-deserved roll, and after strong performances in Spike Lee’s Da 5 Bloods and western The Harder They Fall, he’s looking to blow up in a major way this year. More impressively, Jonathan Majors is willing to take some real jabs for his work, as he did for the upcoming Creed III.

In Creed III, Jonathan Majors plays Damian Anderson, the latest opponent of Michael B. Jordan’s Adonis Creed. As it seems, Majors took a few good shots from his co-star. But there’s no bad blood there because the actor is just happy to be in the Rocky franchise, which has its ninth outing entering the ring on March 3rd. “I took a couple, I think. I loved it. I’m just so humbled by the opportunity to be a part of the Rocky franchise. Sly, Michael B. Jordan, it’s like, if I’m gonna be in that lineage, even as a baddie, I wanna go for it. So, yeah, [Michael] might caught me a few times. I took some body shots, and gave out a few, too.”

Not only has Creed III proven how devoted Jonathan Majors can be, but so, too, has Magazine Dreams, in which he plays bodybuilder Killian Maddox. “I’m 6 feet tall. I’m 202 pounds…In order to sustain that and to grow that you have to eat as much protein that you weigh. I ate 6,100 calories a day for about four months. That included the pre-work and the post-work of Creed III.” Adding to that, Majors said, “The normal bodybuilder works out two times a day. I’m playing Killian Maddox…Playing him you don’t fuck around. What ended up happening is I would train two hours, two times a day for the movie and a third time after wrap. Meanwhile, you eat six times a day. Lots of chicken. Lots of elk.”

On February 17th, Majors will make his big screen MCU debut in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, playing main antagonist Kang the Conqueror. Judging by the preparation Jonathan Majors did for both Creed III and Magazine Dreams, we’re a little afraid to wonder just exactly what he did to make sure the character is effective.

While the releases of the third entries in both the Creed and Ant-Man sagas are imminent, Magazine Dreams has drummed up a lot of buzz at the Sundance Film Festival. In his 8/10 review, our own Chris Bumbray wrote it’s “the kind of film that will likely inspire a lot of discourse, with the buzz out of Sundance being overwhelmingly positive, although the nihilism did rub some the wrong way. It’s a tough watch, but sometimes films like this are essential.”
