UPDATE (3/26/23):
The criminal defense attorney for Jonathan Majors has made the following statement: “Jonathan Majors is completely innocent and is provably the victim of an altercation with a woman he knows…We are quickly gathering and presenting evidence to the District Attorney with the expectation that all charges will be dropped imminently.”
Adding to this, the attorney stated that “evidence includes video footage from the vehicle where this episode took place, witness testimony from the driver and others who both saw and heard the episode, and most importantly, two written statements from the woman recanting these allegations…All the evidence proves that Mr. Majors is entirely innocent and did not assault her whatsoever…Unfortunately, this incident came about because this woman was having an emotional crisis, for which she was taken to a hospital yesterday. The NYPD is required to make an arrest in these situations, and this is the only reason Mr. Majors was arrested. We expect these charges to be dropped soon.”
ORIGINAL ARTICLE:
Actor Jonathan Majors was arrested this weekend after accusations that he assaulted a woman in a domestic setting. The actor is denying any wrongdoing.
According to a statement from the New York Police Department, who arrested Jonathan Majors on Saturday night, “The victim informed police she was assaulted. Officers placed the 33-year-old male into custody without incident.” The charges have been listed as strangulation, assault and harassment. As per The Hollywood Reporter, citing the statement, “The woman sustained minor injuries to her head and neck and was taken to a hospital.” Majors is no longer in custody.
A representative for Majors stated, “He has done nothing wrong. We look forward to clearing his name and clearing this up.” Jonathan Majors has yet to make a public statement on the arrest or the charges.
Jonathan Majors is well on his way to being a serious player in Hollywood. On the movie scene for under a decade, Majors blew up exponentially in 2023. First came Magazine Dreams, which was a sensation at the Sundance Film Festival. The following month saw the release of Ant-Man & the Wasp: Quantumania, which, despite poor reviews (something Majors doesn’t seem phased by), earned major praise for Majors’ performance as Kang the Conqueror. March’s Creed III–in which Majors stepped into the ring with Michael B. Jordan’s Adonis Creed–has been a major box office presence, pulling in around $230 million domestically, not to mention again showing Majors as a forceful onscreen presence.
As far as upcoming projects, Jonathan Majors is currently tied nicely into the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with Avengers: The Kang Dynasty due out in 2025, with his character being molded into the franchise’s next major villain ala Thanos. He, too, may have the chance to again work with Spike Lee (after 2020’s Da 5 Bloods) in Da Understudy, which “tells the story of life imitating art when the understudy of a Broadway production finds a role he’s willing to kill for.”
Details are relatively slim right now, but we will be sure to keep readers updated as more emerge regarding Jonathan Majors’ arrest and charges.
