With such a distinct, soothing tone, it’s no wonder Jon Hamm has gotten so much voice work. Now, he’s set to get his own starring role in an animated series called Grimsburg, playing a detective who juggles the struggles of his job and his home life.
In Grimsburg, Jon Hamm plays Martin Flute (looking very much like Hopper from Stranger Things), “maybe the greatest detective ever to catch a cannibal clown and correctly identify a mid-century modern armoire. But there’s one mystery he still can’t crack — himself. To do that he must return to Grimsburg, a town where everyone has a secret or three, and redeem himself in the eyes of his fellow detectives, his ferocious ex-wife and his lovably unstable son.”
Grimsburg is set to premiere during a strong slot, following a doubleheader of NFL games on Fox on January 7th. The supporting cast of Grimsburg includes Erinn Hayes (Childrens Hospital), Rachel Dratch (Saturday Night Live), Alan Tudyk (a Disney voice favorite for over a decade), Kevin Michael Richardson (who has done voice work for Seth MacFarlane), and Greg Chun (the English-dubbed The Squid Game). Jon Hamm’s most recent voice credits include Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K. (as Iron Man), Prime Video’s Invincible, Fox’s Bless the Harts, and the narrator for season two of Legion.
When Grimsburg was first announced in 2021, Jon Hamm expressed his commitment to headlining the series. “I am very excited to be involved in the Fox animation universe…A universe I have been actively watching since the early ’90s. The opportunity to get to bring a project like Grimsburg to life that is so particular and unique, and to work with its incredibly imaginative and hilarious creators is one I can’t wait to get started with.”
Created by Catlan McClelland and Matthew Schlissel, Grimsburg was already renewed for a second season last year. Executive producer Gail Bergman praised both the project and the team, saying, “Grimsburg is a thoroughly original and comedic take on the small-town crime show trope with a mix of the insatiable Jon Hamm and head-spinning plot twists and turns. Fox, Bento Box and Grimsburg genius creators, Catlan and Matthew are taking the animation genre to new heights under the wise leadership of our brilliant showrunner Chadd Gindin in this eccentric comedy with a broad appeal.”
