Jon Hamm has turned up in small roles in a number of franchises — an admiral in Top Gun: Maverick and voices in Shrek and Despicable Me entries — but he has yet to enter the world of superhero movies. But, as with so many stars in perfectly stable careers, Jon Hamm is ready to step onto the big screen to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe, perhaps as Doctor Doom in Fantastic Four?
Jon Hamm recently told Screen Rant that whole Marvel is definitely a studio in his sights, it won’t be him making that final decision. “Those decisions get made at such a high level at this point, definitely above my pay grade. I would love to. I’ve been a fan of Marvel Comics and comics in general since I was probably single digits. I think there are tons of stories that I’m familiar with, at least, that are still out there to be told.” One such story within the Marvel universe that Jon Hamm would be familiar with is Mister Sinister, the Chris Claremont creation tied to the X-Men. Hamm was set to play the character in 2020’s The New Mutants but his scene was never even filmed.
Still, Jon Hamm’s excitement for potentially joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe is unwavered. “Hopefully, whatever their plans are, they include me. But if not, I know that they have a pretty deep bench of folks that are ready to be a part of those stories. There are certainly a lot of stories in the X-Men world to be told. Fantastic Four as well, [like] Doctor Doom. There are so many great things out there. But yeah, I hope I get a chance. Who knows?”
The X-Men have been teased as being part of the MCU for a few years now, and now that the Writers Guild of America strike has ended and screenplay pitches can move forward, here’s hoping we get another worthwhile entry not just via the X-Men stories but through the MCU as a whole.
