BABY DRIVER follows a young getaway driver (Ansel Elgort), coerced into working for a crime boss, who finds himself taking part in a heist doomed to fail. Thanks to the ANT-MAN fiasco, it's been a hot minute since a new Edgar Wright film has hit theater's. 2013's THE WORLD'S END was the last time we've had a chance to enjoy Wright's visual stylings, and we still have the bulk of 2017 to get through. In the meantime, here are some images showing off Ansel Elgort, Jamie Foxx and Jon Hamm!
Director Edgar Wright on BABY DRIVER:
I always wanted to do an action movie that was powered by music. It’s something that’s very much a part of my previous films and I thought of this idea of how to take that a stage further by having a character who listens to music the entire time. So, you have this young getaway driver who has to soundtrack his entire existence, particularly the bank robberies and fast getaways that come afterwards. It’s quite a wide range of music, though. There’s about 35 songs in the movie and they range from very famous to more obscure. It’s supposed to reflect the character’s extremely eclectic taste in music.
Wright went on to describe the film as an "action crime film," and said that, "It’s funny in places but it’s not a comedy." The man has always done a fantastic job at mixing action and humor, so I'm curious to see how something more straightforward might work out. At the very least, the line-up of actors he's assembled should prove for an entertaining watch!
BABY DRIVER will open in theaters on August 11, 2017.
