Lex Luthor is coming to Supergirl. In a joint statement released last month, executive producers Robert Rovner and Jessica Queller said, "We’re beyond excited to introduce iconic villain, Lex Luthor, to Supergirl and to weave him into our story this season. We’ve talked about having Lex on the show since it’s inception and we’re excited to have him finally arrive. We can’t wait for him to shake things up in National City and watch him go toe to toe with not only Supergirl, but his sister Lena Luthor." As for who will be stepping into the role of the nefarious villain, well, it was announced today that Jon Cryer (Two and a Half Men) will be the man for the job.
This won't be Jon Cryer's first association with the Superman franchise, or the Luthor family for that matter, as he played Lenny Luthor, Lex's nephew, in SUPERMAN IV: THE QUEST FOR PEACE. The actor will have a recurring role on Supergirl and will appear for the first time in the 15th episode of season four, which is slated to air sometime next year. "We are enormous fans of Jon Cryer, and he was instantly our dream actor to play the iconic role of Lex Luthor," Robert Rovner and Jessica Queller said. "Jon is a super-talent, and the fact that he played Lenny Luthor in Superman IV brings an added layer of legacy to his casting. We’re beyond thrilled to welcome Jon to the Supergirl family." Although Lex hasn't appeared in the flesh, he has been mentioned several times throughout the series, and at the moment, is incarcerated for thirty-seven consecutive life terms in Stryker's Island Penitentiary. The CW series has been adding more members of the Superman family to its cast over the years, including Superman (Tyler Hoechlin) himself as well as Lois Lane (Elizabeth Tulloch), the latter of whom will be introduced during December's Elseworlds crossover event.
What do you think? Will Jon Cryer make for a good Lex Luthor?
