The Matrix Resurrections score now being done by Johnny Klimek, Tom Tykwer

The Matrix Resurrections has chosen the duo that will compose the film’s score but fans might be a little upset that the man behind the signature sound of the franchise won’t be returning (via Film Music Reporter).

Johnny Klimek and Tom Tykwer will co-score the upcoming fourth installment of the franchise. This will mark the first time that Don Davis, who composed the score of the first three films, won’t be a part of the music. Klimek & Tykwer have previously scored the Wachowski’s Netflix series Sense8 and also co-scored the Wachowski siblings- & Tykwer-directed feature Cloud Atlas (with Reinhold Heil). The plus side is that they’re no strangers to working on Wachowski projects but Don Davis is a fan favorite and it’s believed that his signature sound will be missed. No reason was given as to why Don Davis wouldn’t be scoring this installment as of this writing.

The Matrix Resurrections is produced, co-written (with David Mitchell & Aleksander Hemon), and directed by Lana Wachowski. The film marks the fourth installment of The Matrix franchise and will see the return of Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, Jada Pinkett Smith Daniel Bernhardt, and Lambert Willson while they will be joined by new faces that include Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Jessica Henwick, Jonathan Groff, Neil Patrick Harris, Priyanka Chopra Jonas Telma Hopkins, Eréndira Ibarra, Toby Onwumere, Max Riemelt, Brian J. Smith, and Christina Ricci. A trailer teaser was released yesterday with the news that the full trailer will be released tomorrow!

What are YOUR thoughts on Don Davis not returning to score The Matrix Resurrections? The latest entry of The Matrix franchise hits theaters and HBO Max on December 22, 2021.
