Contrary to a previous report, the next installment in THE RING series will not be a prequel, but a sequel set 13 years after the events from the first movie, and Deadline is reporting that Johnny Galecki (The Big Bang Theory, SUICIDE KINGS) has been cast as one of the leads in RINGS. Galecki will play Gabriel, "a handsome, pleasure-seeking professor who mentors and helps boyfriend and girlfriend duo, Holt (Alex Roe) and Julia (Matilda Lutz)." Sources tell the site that "Galecki’s character is a complete departure from his sensitive nerd guy Leonard" on the CBS sitcom.
In addition, Shock Till You Drop has learned which THE RING character will be back for RINGS.
The character of Aidan, son to Naomi Watts’ Rachel Keller and young protagonist of 2002’s The Ring and 2005’s The Ring Two, will appear in Rings. Whether David Dorfman, who essayed Aidan in the aforementioned films, will reprise the role is unknown to Shock, but an adult version of the afflicted boy does enter the proceedings.
So instead of an unnecessary THE RING prequel, we'll be getting an unnecessary sequel from director F. Javier Gutierrez (BEFORE THE FALL). Perhaps I'm being a little jaded, but THE RING 2 was an awful follow-up to the first movie, and I just don't think we need another THE RING film. Are you interested in seeing RINGS now that it has been announced it will be a sequel?
RINGS is set to open on November 13, 2015.
Daveigh Chase (the actress who played Samara in the previous THE RING films) then and now.
