Kevin Smith is sticking with genre fare for his follow-up to TUSK and the Christmas horror flick ANTI-CLAUS. It has been announced that Smith will team up with Johnny Depp (who is rumored to be in TUSK) for the Canadian horror-action-comedy YOGA HOSERS!
Interestingly enough, while Depp figures to be a large part of it, the actual leads of the film are Depp and Smith’s own daughters: Lily-Rose Depp and Harley Quinn Smith.
YOGA HOSERS focuses on
15-year-old yoga nuts Colleen Collette (Lily-Rose Depp) and Colleen McKenzie (Harley Quinn Smith) who have an after-school job at a Manitoba convenience store called Eh-2-Zed. When an ancient evil rises from beneath Canada’s crust and threatens their big invitation to a Grade 12 party, the Colleens join forces with a legendary man-hunter from Montreal named Guy Lapointe (Depp) to fight for their lives with, according to the producers, “all seven Chakras, one Warrior Pose at a time.”
Also starring in this romp: most of the TUSK cast (including Michael Parks, Justin Long, Haley Joel Osment, Genesis Rodriguez, Ralph Garman, Jennifer Schwalbach and Harley Morenstein) as well as Tony Hale, Natasha Lyonne, Austin Butler, Adam Brody, Tyler Posey and Jason Mewes.
Quite a packed party. Smith calls this a “comic book” film, just with two formidable 15-year-old girls at the center of it. I can dig it, and I’m very hopeful that terrible title will be changed at some point.
StarStream Entertainment will finance and produce. XYZ Films will be selling foreign rights at this year’s Toronto Film Festival while WME Global handling North American rights.
