After the enormous success of DEADPOOL, a sequel was pretty much guaranteed, and there was much rejoicing when that sequel was officially announced with every member of the original creative team returning. All seemed to be well in the land of chimichanga's and snappy quips, until suddenly it wasn't.
A little under a month ago DEADPOOL director Tim Miller left the project behind and it was believed that casting disagreements with Ryan Reynolds were to blame. Shortly afterwards DEADPOOL's composer, Tom Holkenborg aka Junkie XL, announced that he wouldn't be returning either out of solidarity with Miller. Ruh oh, but as we know, the show must go on. One of the names brought up as Miller's replacement was JOHN WICK co-director David Leitch, who everyone seemed to think would be a good candidate, and now it's official; David Leitch will direct DEADPOOL 2. Although it was unfortunate to lose Tim Miller, I think we can all agree that this is a pretty great choice. Now where's my John Wick vs. Deadpool spinoff?!
Leitch co-directed JOHN WICK with Chad Stahelski, but elected not to return for JOHN WICK: CHAPTER TWO in favour of THE COLDEST CITY, a spy thriller starring Charlize Theron and James McAvoy which will be released on July 28, 2017. Meanwhile, DEADPOOL 2 will hit theaters on January 12, 2018.
